Artistic Director, Chris Rands; Musical Director, Paul Jeanes; Producer, Justine Fry.
In the programme Chris Rands noted: "It has been an exciting challenge to stage this timeless piece. Setting it in the mid-20th century allows us to explore a more modern take on the characterisations – an effortlessly manipulative Mephistopheles, a helplessly aware Faust, and a confident, earthy Marguerite – all mixed in with a tempo and dynamicism fit for a 21st century audience."
Importantly for a community-based company, the opera provides a hefty part for the chorus with choreographed dance and an important dramatic role. The rousing soldiers' chorus, justifiably famous, was especially well received.
